Infectious Disease and Immunology Research Center IMERI FKUI held a guest lecture with titled “Two-Types of Novel TB Vaccine” on Monday 25th of March 2019. The speaker for this guest lecture was Prof Yasuhiro Yasutomi, DVM, Ph.D from Tsukuba Primate Research Center, National Insitute of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutritions (NIBIOHN) Japan. The guest lecture was moderated by Dr. Suwarti, STP, M.Si, Post Doctoral Research fellow Eijkman-Oxford Clinical Research Unit (EOCRU), as member of IDIRC IMERI.
In his presentation, Prof Yasuhori talked about two types of vaccine that being developed by Tsukuba Primate Research Center, National Insitute of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutritions,
A. Recombinant BCG vaccines.
Designated for immunocompromizes person but still have effectivity against Tuberculosis (TB)
B. Viral vector human parainfluenza virus TB antigen vaccines.
Designated for mucosal induced vaccines with powerful virus as its adjuvant.
He also stated several points on his presentation that BCG is less effective for pulmonary TB and good for miliary TB, Localized vaccines are better than systemic for TB , Immunological properties of mucosal immunity are necessary for TB Prevention.
This activity is expected to open opportunities for collaboration between IDIRC IMERI and NIBIOHN japan in the form of education and research.
